Snow Ice Cream an Old Fashion Recipe

How to Make Snow Ice Cream

Snow ice cream recipe

Recently, this old fashioned recipe for snow ice cream showed up in my newsfeed and thought I would share it here for future reference. It snowed last week here at the farm and I sure wish I would have made some of this snow cream before the rain came and washed it all away.

There are plenty of people who did get lots of snow who could still use this recipe for snow cream. I also want to be able to come here and find it the next time it snows around here. I think I saw another chance in our ten day forecast.

Recipe for Snow Ice Cream

  • 3 Cups fresh snow
  • 1 can milk (This is how the recipe reads, do you think they mean sweetened condensed or evaporated milk in a can?)
  • 1/3 Cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • dash of salt

The article suggests that the children should go out and gather fresh snow. While they are out, you can combine the rest of the ingredients so that it is ready to pour over the snow. Only stir enough to mix the snow ice cream together. Put it in the freezer until it firms up to the texture of sherbet. Maybe the kids will stay out in the snow that long playing.

I can’t wait to try this recipe for old fashioned snow cream the next time we get a big fluffy snowfall. Let me know in the comments if you have made this in the past with a different recipe. Of course, if you try this recipe, please come back to the comments here and let me know how it is.

Do you have additional ways to make snow ice cream? Please drop your suggestions in the comments below. I am looking forward to hearing from you about this old fashioned recipe.

This Type of Stainless Steel Bowl Would Be Great

I love a good stainless steel bowl set and these even have a lid for each one. That doubles how much I like them! The stainless steel should speed up the time it takes to set the snow ice cream. This set isn’t horribly priced either. I’ve seen some sets of 2-3 good stainless steel bowls going for over $100. You can see the reviews here for this set.
