We use our electric 18 quart roaster quite often here at Wild Heaven Farms for various things, mostly chicken or beef bone broth. It takes a few days to do this and being as cost conscious as we are around here, we wondered how much it was costing us to do this.
First things first. Let’s discuss the type of electric 18 quart roaster we are using. Ours is a Hamilton Beach with the buffet pans like this one:

It might not be exactly the same, but this model is pretty close to the one I’ve been using for 6-7 years.
Now, if you will look at the first picture of my 18 quart electric roaster oven, you will see that I have it plugged it to my handy-dandy electric meter. It is one of the coolest gifts we have ever received. We use it everywhere! Right now we have it in the barn with the electric water bowl plugged into it. (I’ll let you know about that one soon.)
You can plug in the numbers from your electric bill so that it figures out exactly what the cost to run your electric 18 quart roaster oven is, or any electrical item that you want to plug into it. It will tell you how much per hour, day, week or month that any electric item is costing you. Yes, you can now plug in your daughter’s hair straightener and show her just how much money she is using when she decides to leave it plugged in all day.
Ok, so back to how much it costs to run my electric 18 quart roaster oven. Here is the picture that I took so I could remember how high I had it set on. The next picture shows a closeup of my Kill A Watt EZ and what it cost to run the roaster oven for a 24 hour period
It turns out that it is really cost effective to run. I’m sure most people don’t need to run their roaster for a full 24 hour period like we do when making broth but it is good to know how much the actual cost is. Only 45 cents a day! That really makes it easy to use!
