3 Ingredient Cherry Cobbler or is it Dump Cake

3 ingredient cherry cobbler

3 ingredient cherry cobbler feels a little like cheating when it comes to making a fabulous dessert that will please everyone. Let me tell you, no one will guess you just opened a can, a box, and a stick of butter!

Your piece of cobbler

My youngest daughter actually requested this in lieu of a birthday cake this year! I guess when you turn 19, you just know what you want!

What are the 3 Ingredients for Cherry Cobbler?

So here they are, the ingredients you will need to make this 3 ingredient cherry cobbler. Of course, you can make it any flavor cobbler that you can buy pie filling for, blueberry, apple, cherry, or peach. I’m sure there are more flavors to choose from, I’ll bet it would even be good with a jar of grandma’s homemade apple butter instead of pie filling.

  1. 1 box yellow cake mix (you don’t even need to look at the directions or have the ingredients listed on the box)
  2. 1 can pie filling (you can use 2 if a large crowd)
  3. 1 stick of butter (use at least 6 TBSP for best results)

How do I make the 3 ingredient cherry cobbler?

Just layer it. Empty the can of pie filling into the baking dish and then pour the whole box of dry cake mix on top. Now chop your butter small or like me, use a shredder/grater with frozen butter for a more uniform spread.

Place this into an oven preheated to 350 degrees and bake until it is golden brown. It’s hard to give an exact time because it all depends on the size baking dish you use and the spread of the ingredients for this cobbler. This one took about 45 minutes but it is a big dish so a smaller dish might take longer because the cake mix will be thicker on it.

I’ve heard other people call this a cherry dump cake when I’ve served it to them. What do you call it? If you have known this by another name, please let us know in the comments. If you make this recipe, let us know what you think! We love hearing from our readers!
